Animal Control Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Performs routine and technical services involving the care and maintenance of animals and the grounds for the animal shelter while following City policy and State of Texas laws.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides information to the public regarding receiving and releasing animals, locating lost and found, and the adoption of animals
  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of the animal shelter
  • Ensures welfare and proper care of animals within the facility are maintained at all times
  • Monitors animals to determine if veterinary medical care is needed
  • Assists with animal adoptions and helps with coordinating activities
  • Responsible for issuing warnings and citations to owners of uncontrolled or nuisance-creating animals
  • Maintains data and prepares activity reports including recording and accounting for all monies received at the shelter in accordance with city policies and procedures
  • Maintains and orders supplies for the shelter as needed
  • Must be able to work the allocated hours of the position including weekends and be willing to report for duty on short notice at any hour of the day or night

This position is temporary/full-time for four (4) months. Applicant must be able to work evenings and weekends.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or its equivalent (GED)
  • One (1) year paid full time experience in responsible animal control and handling

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
    • Reliable transportation and liability insurance
  • Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:
    • Criminal background check and controlled substance screening
