Fiscal Services Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides extensive customer service to the public assisting customers with utility service account information involving questions, complaints, and billing inquiries. Handles large amounts of cash, service requests, data entry, and other related activities in a fast pace environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists customers with utility service billing and account information
    • Responds to customers’ inquiries and requests for assistance and service in person and on the phone
    • Verifies and enters account or invoice data
    • Performs review of accounts and related fiscal or customer information to determine accuracy
    • Refers customers to other resources for additional assistance
  • Maintains customer accounts and business licenses
    • Gathers information in order to create or update accounts
    • Processes business license and renewal notices
    • Prepares delinquent accounts for cut off as a result of non-payment
  • Processes fiscal transactions
    • Receives and accounts for funds from the drop box, mail, and over the counter including utility payments, water and sewer taps fees, service deposits, reconnect fees, service charges, miscellaneous accounts receivable payments, business license payments, animal license payments, hotel/motel tax payments, and bulk water payments.
    • Maintains a cash tray and processes daily cash receipts received, closes out daily batches, and make deposits
    • Accounts for all funds received in compliance with the Cash Receipts Policy
  • Sorts, makes images of, organizes and files documents of assigned area, verifies, enters and updates system data
  • Prepares, processes, and prints scheduled reports and forms, and maintains related files
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned

  • Reconcile, organize and systematically handle a large volume of information, documents, and files
  • Preparing and distributing correspondence, documents and reports
  • Utilizing a personal computer with a variety of software including Microsoft Office
  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
  • Maintaining the highest standards of ethical behavior, exercising honesty and integrity, respect, confidentiality, and fairness in the execution of their official responsibilities

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
  • Climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or its equivalent (GED)
  • Two (2) or more years of paid accounting or bookkeeping experience
  • Training and experience using a personal computer with a variety of software including Microsoft Office

 

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:
    • Criminal background check
    • Controlled substance screening

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Training in standard office practices and procedures
  • Training in accounting practices and procedures
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel software
  • Experience with handling money
  • Keyboarding skills of 40 wpm
  • Calculator skills of 150 strokes per minute
