Police Officer – Community Relations

POSITION SUMMARY:

 Plans, develops, organizes, implements and participates in a variety of community relations and crime prevention programs directed to adults, juveniles, senior citizens, businesses, and community groups impacting increased safety and security of City streets, buildings, residences, and neighborhoods. Works largely independently in coordinating public outreach, neighborhood volunteers, and crime prevention programs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as liaison to the community presenting the department in programs serving adults, juveniles, senior citizens, businesses and community groups
  • Develops professional materials and programs correlated to programs
  • Facilitates, prepares, and presents programs about crime prevention and education to law enforcement officers and public groups of all age levels
  • Makes visits to residences and businesses assessing security problems and recommending methods to effectively make structures more secure

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Citizen of the United States
  • Documentary evidence of graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the General Educational Development Test
  • No felony convictions in any jurisdiction unless the judgment or conviction has been reversed or a complete pardon has been granted
  • Three (3) years of full-time progressively responsible law enforcement experience or relevant military experience
  • Intermediate Peace Officer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
  • Eighteen (18) years of age or older upon appointment

 

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:
  • Criminal background check
  • Controlled substance screening
  • Intermediate Peace Officer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
  • Crime Prevention 1 Certification required within one year of assignment
