Building our community through vital volunteerism
Never underestimate your ability to do something that can make a difference – for someone else and even for yourself – by volunteering! Here at the City of Rosenberg, we strive to provide volunteer opportunities designed to benefit both the volunteer and the City. As a volunteer at the City of Rosenberg, you will join a network of involved citizens who desire to make a significant positive impact on their community and are gaining a greater understanding of how the City functions. Our goal is to build community as we involve volunteers in aspects of City life.
Volunteering is Rewarding
By volunteering, you are offering your skills and abilities to enhance the delivery of the City’s services to the community. Volunteers are partners in building a community you can be proud of, through an experience that brings fulfillment to your life.
The volunteer program’s Handbook for Volunteers [PDF] contains helpful information and provides a good indication of how volunteers fit in with the City staff to make a difference. Feel free to check it out if you are interested in volunteering!
Volunteers Make a Valuable Contribution
Your time is valuable, whether you are available for just a few hours or a number of days in the week. Your volunteerism can be utilized to improve the quality of life in this City and add to your own opportunity to grow and learn new skills.
You may sign up as an individual or as a group – such as an organized group, local business, club, or a non-profit organization. All are welcome to volunteer for any available volunteer opportunities at the City, either for special events, short-term projects within a particular department, or a regular volunteer position that is short-term or ongoing.
Volunteer Opportunities are Varied
There are volunteer opportunities to work alongside City staff in some of the City offices; however, if you are interested in doing something that is not on our list of available opportunities, we will work with you to see if it is possible to build that opportunity within the framework of our volunteer program.
Special Events: Volunteers are utilized for special events or projects hosted by the City, sometimes for a single-day event – perhaps even for just a few hours. Groups often sign up to volunteer for this type of event. These events will be listed on the City’s web site as they arise throughout the year.
Short-Term Projects: A City department might request volunteers to work with a short-term project. These opportunities will be posted on the City’s web site, as well, when they are available.
Long-Term and Ongoing Opportunities: Various departments within the City request volunteer help for long-term projects or for ongoing assignments within the department that can be filled by an individual volunteer on a regular basis. These opportunities will be posted on the City’s web site, along with a description of the position.
Through our Volunteer Program (R.E.V.V.), the City maintains a database of volunteers. With your permission, once your volunteer application is approved, following a clear criminal history check, your information is entered into the Volunteer Bank. Through utilization of the database, the City is able to e-mail you regarding upcoming volunteer opportunities, and you can let us know if the event or project fits into your schedule.
